Water Safety ACOP L8 and HSG274

The approved code of practice (ACoP) L8 and HSG274 are provided by health and safety executive (HSE) to ensure proper management of water systems is crucial to prevent growth and proliferation of harmful legionella bacteria.

Legionella Risk Assessment

A Legionella Risk Assessment (LRA) is used to identify potential risks relating to water systems within the built environment. These risks can be processes such as tap flushing and cleaning. They can also include physical issues such as scale build up on outlets, dead legs and water temperatures. Findings can then be reviewed and acted on to ensure a safe environment for occupants within a commercial setting.

Cold water storage tank cleaning

If your property has a cold water storage tank, these are often dirty and a harbour for harmful bacteria such as legionella to proliferate. Cleaning cold water storage tanks from the inside is a positive step to reducing the areas that legionella can grow.

Water Sampling and Analysis

Water sampling and analysis is the process of collecting water samples and sending them to labs for testing. The tests look at legionella proliferation and the abundance. This is a good way to see whether the water systems are safe for building occupants. It's also advised within the ACoP L8 guidance.
